Graduate Development Program

Program outline

Graduate Officers will be provided with a comprehensive induction to WA Health through:

  • Training and Development
    Structured training, on the job learning and professional development activities.
  • Mentors
    Mentors are employees, generally at higher levels in WA Health who provide support.
  • Placement Supervisors
    Supervisors are responsible for overseeing a work program for the Graduate, managing their performance and helping them learn.
  • Program Coordinator
    The first point of contact for everyone involved in the program.
  • Graduate Networking and Learning Group
    Provides Graduate Officers with an opportunity to develop peer support relationships, and to share with and learn from each others experiences in WA Health.
  • Performance Management
    The Graduate Performance Agreement documents Graduate Officers' roles and responsibilities, work requirements, performance outcomes and professional development activities.

Program placements

Graduate Officers are rotated through three placements offering a range of experience in:

  • Human Resources
  • Workforce Planning
  • Finance / Accounting / Economics
  • Health system workforce reform and strategic planning
  • Policy development
  • Briefing notes for the Director General and Minister for Health
  • Draft reports and correspondence
  • Ministerial enquiries
  • Program development
  • Indigenous Health
  • Information Technology
  • Health Promotion
  • Health Reform

Following successful completion of the Program, permanent employment may be offered depending on operational requirements.
